Box Score 4 The Carthage College softball team (6-2, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 14th in the March 20 National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, won a pair of games on Saturday, March 23 at the National Training Center Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., defeating the State University of New York-Fredonia (2-2), 2-1, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2-2) by a 14-3 margin.
The Lady Reds opened their spring trip on Friday, March 22 by losing both ends of a split doubleheader, falling to Wisconsin-Whitewater (2-0), 3-0, and losing to No. 13 Tufts University (10-1) by a 3-1 margin.
In the win over SUNY-Fredonia, Carthage pitcher
Krystina Leazer (Sr., Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove) improved her record to 4-1 by limiting the Blue Devils to one run on two hits and three walks over seven innings, while striking out six batters. Alyssa Brognano (1-1), the second-of-two SUNY-Fredonia hurlers, took the loss.
In the win over M.I.T., Carthage scored four runs in the first inning, a run in the second and three runs in the third to open up an 8-0 lead. The Lady Reds tacked on five runs in the sixth. Katie Morman (Jr., Kenosha, Wis./Somers-Shoreland Lutheran) went four-for-five with an RBI. Tina Campbell (Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla./Lakewood, 2-1) was the winning pitcher. She allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks over five and two-thirds innings. Alexandra Marshall (1-1) took the loss for Engineers and surrendered all 14 runs.
On March 22, Wisconsin-Whitewater pitcher Bekka Houda (1-0) stopped the Lady Reds with a two-hit shutout and struck out nine batters.

Tufts starting pitcher Allyson Fournier stopped Carthage on three hits, one run and 13 strikeouts in the second game. Tina Campbell (Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla./Lakewood, 1-1) took the loss and surrendered three runs on eight hits and two walks.
Carthage continues its 10-game spring trip on Monday, March 25 by playing the State University of New York-New Paltz at 1 p.m. (all times EDT) and Buena Vista University at 3 p.m.
