Men's Tennis Blanked by No. 29 Wisconsin-Whitewater, 9-0, on March 15

The Carthage College men's tennis team (4-4, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) lost to No. 29 Wisconsin-Whitewater (6-7), 9-0, on Friday, March 15 at the Four Lakes Athletic Club in Elkhorn, Wis.
 
Carthage's Jeff Lotz Jr. (Sr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 11-7) lost to Wisconsin-Whitewater's Ben Shklyar at No. 1 singles, Shklyar winning, 7-6(7-0), 6-4.  Alex Boomgarden (Fr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 12-5) lost to the Warhawks' Byron Balkin at No. 2 singles, Balkin winning, 6-1, 7-5.  Ryan Jump (Fr., Mundelein, Ill., 11-4) lost at No. 3 singles, as did Brian Howes (Sr., Bartlett, Ill., 12-6) at No. 4 singles, Juan Robles (So., Bogota, Columbia, 3-8) at No. 5 singles and Tom Klassman (Sr., Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove, 6-8) at No 6 singles.
 
Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Boomgarden (9-7) lost to UW-Whitewater's Ben Shklyar/Mitch Osborne, 8-3.  The No. 2 doubles team of Conor Moon (So., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock (Ill.)-Marian Central Catholic) and Brandon Curtis (Jr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge, 4-6) lost, as did the Red Men's No. 3 tandem of Howes and Jump (6-5). 
 
Carthage travels to Orlando, Fla., on March 24-27 for three spring-break matches.  The Red Men play Luther College on Sunday, March 24 at 1 p.m. (all times EDT), Hamilton College on Monday, March 25 at 9 a.m. and Hamline University on Wednesday, March 27, also at 9 a.m.
