Box Score 2 The Carthage College men's lacrosse team (3-1, 0-0 Midwest Lacrosse Conference) split a Saturday, Feb. 23 doubleheader at Rhodes College's Fargason Field in Memphis, Tenn. The Red Men lost to Birmingham-Southern College (2-1), 12-8, before defeating Rhodes College (0-3) by a 22-6 margin. Carthage became only the second men's lacrosse team in NCAA history to play two games in one day. The only other previous time was by Washington College on April 3, 1993.
In the loss to Birmingham-Southern, the Panthers never trailed in the contest, leading 4-2 after opening quarter, tied 5-5 at halftime and led, 8-7, going into the final period. Matt Ivie scored four goals for Birmingham-Southern with Evan Lalande scoring three times with three assists.
Danny Morse (Jr., O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) led the Red Men with three goals, three assists and two ground balls, while
Peter Slefinger (Sr., Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) had two goals and an assist.
In the win over Rhodes, the Red Men led, 7-2, after the first period, 13-3 at halftime and 15-6 after the third period.
Mason Poage (Sr., Columbia, Mo./Hickman) scored four of Carthage's goals with one assist, while
Danny Morse and Jack Meachum (Jr., Naperville, Ill./North) had three goals and one assist each. Matt Vavrek led the Lynx with two goals and two assists.
Carthage travels to Greencastle, Ind., on Saturday, March 9 to play DePauw University in a 2 p.m., EST game at Blackstock Stadium.
