The Carthage College men's tennis team (2-2, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) split a Saturday, Feb. 23 double-dual match at Coe College's Clark Racquet Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Carthage lost to Coe (8-0), 8-1, before shutting out Buena Vista University (2-2) by a 9-0 margin.
Carthage's
Jeff Lotz Jr. (Sr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 9-5) lost to Coe's Noah Sprinkel at No. 1 singles, Sprinkel winning, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Lotz then defeated Buena Vista's Adam Gustad, 6-1, 6-1.
Alex Boomgarden (Fr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 9-4) lost to Coe's Riley Galbraith at No. 2 singles, Galbraith winning, 7-5, 6-0. Boomgarden then defeated Buena Vista's Cole Renken, 6-1, 6-3.
Ryan Jump (Fr., Mundelein, Ill., 9-2) split at No. 3 singles, as did
Brian Howes (Sr., Bartlett, Ill., 10-4) at No. 4 singles,
Juan Robles (So., Bogota, Columbia, 2-5) at No. 5 singles and
Tom Klassman (Sr., Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove, 4-6) at No 6 singles.
Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Boomgarden (7-5) defeated the Kohawks' team of Noah Sprinkel/Curtis Newman, 8-6 and won over Beavers' Adam Gustad/Jason Ehrhardt, 8-4. The No. 2 doubles team of
Conor Moon (So., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock (Ill.)-Marian Central Catholic) and
Brandon Curtis (Jr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge, 4-2) split, as did the Red Men's No. 3 tandem of Howes and Jump (4-3).
Carthage travels to Oshkosh, Wis., on Saturday, March 2 for a double-dual match at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center. The Red Men take on Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 1 p.m. and the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 4 p.m.
