Red Men Play Host to Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday

Box Score The Carthage College men's basketball team (5-3, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin), ranked 44th in the Dec. 3 "D3hoops.com" poll, defeated Silver Lake College (3-11), 68-56, on Monday, Dec. 9 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
 
There were four ties and six lead changes in the first period before Carthage finally pulled away to a 12-point lead at the break, 37-25.  The Red Men went up by 13 points early in the second half, 40-27, at 18:14.  The Lakers whittled the margin down to seven points on two occasions, the last time at 54-47 at 7:58.  Carthage went on to win by 12, 68-56.
 
The Red Men shot 43 percent (26-60), including 11-of-30 three-pointers, while the Lakers shot 43 percent (23-54), including just two-of-11 from three-point range.  There were only 17 free throws in the game, with Carthage making five-of-six and Silver Lake eight-of-11.  The Red Men had a 37-31 rebounding advantage.
 
Carthage's Kevin Sykes Jr. (Sr., Tinley Park, Ill./Frankfort—Lincoln-Way North) scored a game-high 17 points on six-of-17 field goals, including five-of-15 three-pointers, and pulled down five rebounds. 

Sean Valentine (So., Cary, Ill./Crystal Lake-Prairie Ridge) came off the bench to score 16 points on six-of-eight shooting and three-of-three free throws, along with six rebounds and three assists.  Reese Herth (Jr., Morton Grove, Ill./Skokie-Niles West) added 15 points on five-of-16 field goals, including five-of-10 from three-point range.  Marlon Senior (Sr., Skokie, Ill./Niles North), the Red Men's leading scorer with a 17.7 per-game average, did not dress.  Darius Barnes led Silver Lake with 17 points and eight boards, while Kyle Lundberg had 15 points.
 
Carthage plays host to Wisconsin-Platteville (7-2) on Saturday, Dec. 14 in a 7 p.m. game, also at Tarble Arena.
