Women's Basketball Loses Nov. 6 Exhibition Game at NCAA Division I Iowa State

Box Score The Carthage College women's basketball team, ranked 12th in the "D3hoops.com" pre-season poll and tied for 21st place in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association/USA Today pre-season NCAA Division III poll, lost to NCAA Division I Iowa State University, 78-49, in a Wednesday, Nov. 6 exhibition game at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa. The Cyclones were ranked 20th in the WBCA/USA Today pre-season NCAA Division I poll.

Carthage had a 19-17 lead as late as 9:04 first period, before Iowa State took over, 20-19. The Cyclones closed out the first period with a 22-2 run to take a 38-21 lead at the break. Iowa State made it 20-point game, 46-26 at 17:44, and a 30-point contest, 58-28 at 12:47, en route to a 29-point decision, 78-49.

The Cyclones shot 40 percent (25-62), including seven-of-28 three-pointers, while Carthage shot 32 percent (18-57), including seven-of-25 from three-point range. Iowa State got to the free-throw line 27 times and converted 21 of those, while Carthage hit six-of-nine. The Cyclones out-rebounded the Lady Reds, 45-36.

Hallie Christofferson led Iowa State with 17 points and six rebounds, while Nicole Blaskowsky had 12 points. Haley Stercic (Sr., Chicago, Ill./Marist) topped Carthage with nine points and five rebounds, while Stephanie Kuzmanic (Sr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Wheeling) had eight points and four boards.

Carthage opens its regular-season schedule at the Friday-Saturday, Nov. 15-16 Manchester University "Main View Tip-Off Tournament" at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena in North Manchester, Ind. The Lady Reds take on Ohio Northern University on Friday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m. (all times EST), with Manchester playing Kalamazoo College at 7 p.m., EST. The Saturday, Nov. 16 consolation and championship games get underway at 5 and 7 p.m.
