Carthage College Director of Athletics
Robert Bonn named four new football assistant coaches on Jan. 31, 2013. They are Mike DuFrane,
Jared Elliott,
Dustin Hass and
Kyle Rooker. All four are already assisting head coach
Mike Yeager.
Mike DuFrane, who will coach the defensive line, served as a part-time Carthage coach in 2011 and as a graduate assistant in 2010. In between Carthage stints, DuFrane was an assistant coach at Loras College for the 2012 season. A native of Hortonville, Wis., DuFrane attended Augustana College (S.D.) for the three years before transferring to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He was the starting nose tackle for the Warhawks' NCAA Division III championship team in 2007 and their national-runner-up squad in 2008. DuFrane graduated from Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2009 with a bachelor's in broadcast journalism. He served as a defensive line coach and video coordinator at Minnesota-Morris in the 2009 season. DuFrane, who will complete work on his master's degree in education at Carthage in 2013, lives in Kenosha, Wis., with his wife, Jillian, and son, Jordy.
Jared Elliott will be the Red Men's co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach after serving as an assistant coach for quarterbacks at Western Illinois University in 2012. He was a graduate assistant at Miami University (Ohio) in both 2010 and 2011 and an assistant coach for wide receivers at Missouri Southern State University in both 2008 and 2009. A native of Franklin, Tenn., Elliott was a quarterback and wide receiver at Miami (Ohio) from 2004 to 2007 and part of three Mid-American Conference championship teams. He graduated from Miami (Ohio) in 2008 with a bachelor's in kinesiology and health. Elliott lives in Kenosha, Wis., with his wife, Jamie, and daughter Ava.
Dustin Hass will serve as Carthage's special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach. He served as an assistant coach for both football and track and field at the College of Wooster in 2012 and as a graduate assistant football coach at Indiana University in both 2010 and 2011. A native of Oconto, Wis., Hass lettered on the 2007 and 2008 Hoosier teams as a quarterback. He graduated from Indiana in 2008 with a bachelor's in outdoor recreation and resource management and received his master's in kinesiology, also from Indiana, in 2011.
Kyle Rooker is the Red Men's new offensive coordinator and he will also coach the offensive line. Prior to his arrival at Carthage, Rooker had a 12-year stint as an assistant coach at the College of Wooster. He was the Scots' defensive coordinator in 2012, the offensive coordinator in both 2010 and 2011, a co-offensive coordinator in 2008 and 2009, special teams coordinator from 2003 to 2011 and a defensive line coach in both 2001 and 2002. He was also an assistant track and field coach from 2002 to 2006. A native of Uniontown, Pa., Rooker was a linebacker on the 1997 to 2000 Wooster teams and played on the Scots' 1997 North Coast Athletic Conference championship squad. He graduated from Wooster in 2001 with a bachelor's in history. Rooker and his wife, Jen, have a daughter, Piper.
