WAUKESHA, Wis. — The Carthage College football team battled Carroll University on Saturday evening at Schneider Stadium, falling 20-0 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin matchup for the Old Musket.
The Firebirds' defense kept the game within reach throughout the first half and made several key stops in critical situations, but Carthage was unable to generate enough offensive production to overcome the deficit.

- Carthage's defense opened the game with an interception, giving the Firebirds possession at the opponent's 49-yard line. Carthage was unable to capitalize on the early takeaway, however, as the possession ended without points.
- The Firebirds' defense continued to battle on the ensuing possession, holding the opposition to a 45-yard field-goal attempt that sailed wide with 10:09 remaining in the opening quarter.
- Carthage struggled to establish an offensive rhythm during the first quarter, punting on each of its next three possessions. The Firebirds' defense continued to limit the opposition's offensive opportunities before the hosts put together a late scoring drive.
- The opposition drove 90 yards on 11 plays during its final possession of the first quarter, but Carthage's defense held inside the red zone and forced a field-goal attempt. The kick was good as time expired, giving the hosts a 3-0 lead.

- Davion Hayes carried nine times for 15 yards and added two receptions for five yards. He also returned five punts for 42 yards.
- Zach Hyzy led the Firebirds with 10 tackles and added two tackles for loss. Jeremy Rowlett recorded eight tackles, including three tackles for loss, while Brad Filippis added seven tackles.
- Carthage's defense finished with 62 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and two pass breakups.

- Carthage heads to Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, October 3, for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
