No. 21 Women's Volleyball Goes 2-2 at the Sept. 21-22 Chicago "Gargoyle Classic"

Lady Reds Travel to Illinois Wesleyan on Tuesday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Carthage College women's volleyball team (8-6, 1-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 21st in the Sept. 18 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, went 2-2 at the Friday-Saturday, Sept. 21-22 University of Chicago “Gargoyle Classic” at the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center in Chicago. 

On Friday, Sept. 21, Carthage lost to No. 18 the University of Mount Union (11-4), 3-0, before outlasting the No. 11 and host-Maroons (10-3), 3-2.  The Raiders' winning set scores over the Lady Reds were 25-17, 25-19 and 25-16, while Carthage's winning scores over Chicago were 29-31, 24-26, 26-24, 25-22 and 16-14. 

On Saturday, Sept. 22, the Lady Reds swept No. 22 Heidelberg University (11-5), 3-0, before being swept by Trinity Christian College (12-4), 3-0.  The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Student Prince' were 26-24, 25-18 and 25-21, while the Trinity Christian's winning scores were 25-14, 25-16 and 27-25. 

Bria Hailey (Fr., Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg) collected a team-high nine kills and hit .304 in the loss to Mount Union.  Emily Heuermann (Fr., Washington, Ill.) had 24 kills with a .383 attack percentage in the in over Chicago, while Angelica Walinski (Jr., Skokie, Ill./Niles North) had 13 kills.  Walinski collected 12 kills in the win over Heidelberg, while Hailey had 11 kills and hit .526.  Heuermann had 11 kills with a .276 average in the loss to Trinity Christian. Rachel Fields (So., Chicago, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) was named to the all-tournament team.

Carthage travels to Bloomington, Ill., on Wednesday, Sept. 26 to play CCIW-opponent Illinois Wesleyan University (8-9, 0-2 CCIW) in a 7 p.m. match at the Shirk Center.
