Centre 3, (RV) Carthage 1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 25-23)
KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College women's volleyball team dropped a four-set battle to Centre College on Friday evening at Tarble Arena during the Carthage Tournament.



Set 1: Centre jumped out to an early advantage before Carthage battled back to tie the set at 18-18. The teams continued to trade points, with Carthage pulling even at 20-20 following a kill from Kristina Manojlovic. Centre answered with five of the final six points, however, to take the opening set, 25-21.

Set 2: Carthage responded with its strongest offensive set of the night. Manojlovic opened the set with back-to-back kills before adding another kill later in the frame as the Firebirds built an early lead. Carthage led 15-12 before Centre rallied to tie the score at 20-20. The Firebirds closed the set on a 5-0 run, with consecutive aces from Ava Dettwiler followed by a kill from Mina Reichert and another kill from Manojlovic to secure a 25-21 victory and even the match.

Set 3: Centre took control early in the third set, building a 6-3 lead before Carthage battled back to pull within one at 8-7. The Colonels gradually extended their advantage and used a 7-0 run to take a 20-14 lead. Carthage trimmed the deficit to five, but Centre maintained its momentum and claimed the set, 25-17.

Set 4: Carthage and Centre battled through a tightly contested fourth set, with the Firebirds holding a 13-14 deficit midway through the frame before Centre used a 7-0 run to take a 21-14 lead. Carthage continued to fight, cutting the deficit to 23-17 and later 24-18, but Centre held on to finish the match with a 25-23 victory.



Carthage (1-1) recorded 46 kills and hit .137 on the night while adding 82 digs and 20 total blocks. Centre (2-0) finished with 58 kills and hit .182, while recording 84 digs and 13 total blocks.

Manojlovic led the Firebirds with 16 kills and added 14 digs and two block assists. Emma Crow and Hailey Wierzgac each added six kills, while Dettwiler finished with a team-high 42 assists and added 10 digs and four kills. Reichert contributed 12 digs, while Brianna Gritzman recorded eight digs and a service ace.







Carthage closes out the Carthage Tournament on Saturday with two matches at Tarble Arena. The Firebirds face Wartburg at 2 p.m. before taking on Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 4 p.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
