Lady Reds Travel to Ripon College on Tuesday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Carthage College softball team (14-2, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 24th in the March 28 National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, swept a Saturday, March 31 doubleheader from Lake Forest College (5-11), 3-2 and 7-3, at the Carthage Softball Field in Kenosha, Wis.
 
In the opening game, Carthage broke 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Alyssa Schrader (Sr., Plainfield, Ill./South) led off with a solo home run, her fourth of the year, to break the tie, and Randi Rederer (Fr., Bristol, Wis./Salem-Westosha Central) singled in the third run.  Bryanna Heckel (So., Kenosha, Wis./Salem-Westosha Central) singled home the Lady Reds' first run in the second inning.  Pitcher Krystina Leazer (Jr., Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove, 9-1) limited the Foresters to two runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk, while striking out a career-high 14 batters.  Molly Thomsen (3-4) took the loss.  Carthage's Abby Hanson (So., Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) went three-for-three.
 
Lake Forest took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the nightcap before Carthage struck for seven runs in the fifth.  Katie Morman (Fr., Kenosha, Wis./Somers-Shoreland Lutheran) hit a bases-loaded triple and Olivia Scott (Fr., Plainfield, Ill./Central) a two-run homer.  The Foresters scored a pair of unearned runs in the sixth to close out the scoring at 7-3.  Carthage pitcher Alyssa Schrader (5-1) limited Lake Forest to three unearned runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out five batters.  Schrader helped her own cause by going two-for-three.  Carthage travels to Ripon, Wis., on Tuesday, April 3 to play a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Ripon College (6-6) at Tracy Field.
