The Carthage College women's tennis team (3-2, 2-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) split a Sunday, Sept. 11 double-dual match at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage swept CCIW-opponent Elmhurst College (0-4, 0-3 CCIW), 9-0, before falling to Wisconsin-Whitewater (2-0) by an 8-1 margin.
Carthage's Hollis McPeek (Sr., Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 2-3) defeated the Bluejays' Stephanie Ruff at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3, before losing to the Warhawks' Kalla Schaefer, Schaefer winning, 6-2, 6-2. Bari Reynolds (So., Sterling, Ill., 4-1) defeated the Bluejays' Nicole Darga, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2 singles before falling to Wisconsin-Whitewater's Annie Smith, Smith winning, 6-1, 6-3. Kristina Naidicz (Sr., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper, 3-2) split at No. 3 singles, as did Erin Henrickson (Fr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale-South, 2-3) at No. 4 singles, Abby Ludwig (Fr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge, 2-3) at No. 5 singles and Amanda Bizub (Sr., Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead, 4-1) at No. 6 singles.
Carthage's No. 1 double team of McPeek and Naidicz (5-0) won both of their matches. The Lady Reds' No. 2 team of Reynolds and Hendrickson (4-1) defeated Elmhurst and lost to UW-Whitewater, as did the No. 3 tandem of Ludwig and Bizub (3-2).
On Sunday, Sept. 18, the Lady Reds travel to downstate-Illinois for a pair of CCIW matches. Carthage starts the day with a 9 a.m. match versus Millikin University at Fairview Park in Decatur, Ill., and stops on the way home to take on Illinois Wesleyan University in a 2 p.m. contest at Beadles-Morse Courts in Bloomington, Ill.
