The Carthage College women's tennis team (11-8, 4-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), the third seed, ended its 2010-11 season on Friday, May 6 with a 7-2 loss to second-seeded Augustana College (Ill., 20-8, 4-2 CCIW) in the semifinals of the CCIW Automatic Qualifying Tournament at Illinois Wesleyan University's Beadles-Morse Tennis Courts in Bloomington, Ill.
Top-seeded Wheaton College (Ill., 19-2, 6-0) shut out fourth-seeded Illinois Wesleyan (10-7, 3-3), 9-0, in the other semifinal contest. Wheaton (Ill., 20-2) blanked Augustana (Ill., 20-9). 9-0, in the Saturday, May 7 championship match at the Evergreen Racquet Club, also in Bloomington, Ill.
Carthage's Hollis McPeek (So., Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 11-12) lost to Kim Sawyer from Augustana (Ill.) at No. 1 singles, Sawyer winning, 6-1, 6-3. Bari Reynolds (Fr., Sterling, Ill., 15-12) fell to Shannen McNamara at No. 2 singles, McNamara winning, 6-1, 7-5. Kristina Naidicz (Jr., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper, 15-7) won her No. 3 singles match over Tricia Sapio, 6-1, 6-2. Amanda Bizub (Jr., Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead, 12-9) lost at No. 4 singles, as did Kelsey Bowen (Fr., Beach Park, Ill./Zion-Benton Township, 4-16) at No. 5 singles and Holly Weber (Fr., Salem, Wis./Westosha Central, 5-14) at No. 6 singles.
Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of McPeek and Naidicz (16-9) fell to the Vikings. The Lady Reds' No. 2 team of Reynolds and Bizub (9-9) won their match, but the No. 3 tandem of Bowen and Weber (2-4) lost.
