The Carthage College men's tennis team (12-6, 1-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) defeated CCIW-opponent Augustana College (Ill., 15-8, 2-1), 6-3, on Saturday, April 9 at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.

Carthage's Jeff Lotz Jr. (So., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 18-4), ranked 19th in the March 17 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region rankings, defeated the Vikings' Adam De Simone at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Daneric Hazelman (Jr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands/Natabua, 18-5), ranked 22nd in the regional rankings, won over Kyle Doyle at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Matt Whiteside (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 17-3) was a winner No. 3 singles, as was Alex McLean (Jr., Belleville, Ill./West, 4-6) at No. 4 singles. Nick Boomgarden (Jr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 12-10) fell at No. 5 singles, as did Russell Mull (Jr., Lake Forest, Ill., 2-9) at No. 6 singles.

Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Hazelman (18-4) was winner over Augustana (Ill.), as was the No. 2 team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (15-6). The Red Men's No. 3 tandem of Mull and Brian Howes (So., Bartlett, Ill., 7-7) fell to the Vikings.

Carthage plays host to non-conference opponent Olivet Nazarene University on Thursday, April 14 in a 3 p.m. match at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
