The Carthage College men's tennis team (11-6, 0-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) opened its CCIW-schedule on Friday, April 8 with a 5-4 loss to North Central College (5-7, 1-1 CCIW) at the East Side Tennis and Fitness Club in Kenosha, Wis.

Jeff Lotz Jr. (So., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 17-4), ranked 19th in the March 17 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region rankings, lost to the Cardinals' Sam Sweeney at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-2.
Daneric Hazelman (Jr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands/Natabua, 17-5), ranked 22nd in the regional rankings, fell to Matt Boguslawski at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
Matt Whiteside (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 16-3) was a winner No. 3 singles.
Alex McLean (Jr., Belleville, Ill./West, 3-6) lost at No. 4 singles.
Nick Boomgarden (Jr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 12-9) was a winner at No. 5 singles, but
Russell Mull (Jr., Lake Forest, Ill., 2-8) fell at No. 6 singles.
Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (14-6) defeated the Cardinals, as did the No. 2 team of Lotz and McLean (1-0) and the No. 3 tandem of Hazelman and Mull (1-0). On Saturday, April 9, the Red Men entertain conference-opponent Augustana College (Ill., 15-7, 2-0) in an outdoor match at the Smeds Tennis Center, beginning at 3 p.m.
