Carthage Softball Splits with Anderson and Ramapo on March 14

Lady Reds Face Westminster (Pa.) on Montclair State on Wednesday

The Carthage College softball team (2-2, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) split a Monday, March 14 doubleheader at the Florida “Rebel Games” in Kissimmee, Fla., defeating Anderson University (3-2), 3-1, before being blanked by Ramapo College (4-0), 10-0.

In the Anderson game, Carthage scored a run in the first inning on an RBI-single by Sarah McGinn. Anderson tied the game in the fourth before the Lady Reds scored twice in the seventh inning on a two-run double by Vicki Pyan. Krystina Leazer (So., Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove, 2-0) was the winning pitcher. Leazer limited Anderson to one run on six hits and no walks, while striking out nine batters.

In the loss to Ramapo, Carthage fell behind, 2-0, in the second inning on a two-run single by Amanda Kent. The Roadrunners scored four times in the fourth to take a 6-0 advantage and added a single run in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Ramapo pounded out 15 hits off three Lady Reds pitchers. Starter Tricia O'Keefe (Sr., Franksville, Wis./Union Grove, 0-1) took the loss with six runs, only two earned, on 10 hits and three walks over three and two-thirds innings. Krystina Leazer took over in the fourth and Alyssa Sirocchi in the seventh. Erin Brady led the Roadrunner by going three-for-four with three RBI. Carthage managed only two hits off Lyndsay Buehler (2-0), who struck out seven batters over six innings.

On Wednesday, March 16, the Lady Reds face Westminster College (Pa., 9 a.m.) and Montclair State University (1 p.m.). On Thursday, March 17, Carthage takes on Rutgers-Camden (1 p.m.) and Utica College (3 p.m.). The trip concludes on Friday, March 18 with games against Wisconsin-River Falls (9 a.m.) and Rowan University (11 a.m.).
