The Carthage College men's tennis team (7-1, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) split a pair of matches on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Coe College's Clark Racquet Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Carthage lost to Coe (7-0), 5-4, before blanking Buena Vista University (1-5) by a 9-0 margin.
 
Jeff Lotz Jr., (So., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 9-1) won both of his number-one singles matches, defeating Coe's Victor Khristenko, 7-6, 2-6, 6-4, before blanking Buena Vista's Remy Nshuti, 6-0, 6-0. Daneric Hazelman (Jr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands/Natabua, 10-1), ranked 15th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region rankings, won both of his number-two singles matches, defeating Coe's Elliot Rausa, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, and winning over Buena Vista's Mike Sporer, 6-1, 6-0.  Matt Whiteside (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 8-0) won both of his number-three singles matches, and Nick Boomgarden (Jr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 6-3) split at number-four singles.
 
Carthage's number-one doubles team of Hazelman and Lotz (10-1), ranked 25th in the region, won both of their matches. The number-two team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (7-1) split, as did the number-three tandem of Mull and Howes (5-1).  The Red Men travel to Oshkosh, Wis., on Saturday, March 5 to play a double-dual match at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center. Carthage takes on Wisconsin-Oshkosh at Noon and Lakeland College at 3 p.m.
