Box Score The Carthage College women's basketball team (3-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 30th in the pre-season USA Today/ESPN/Women's Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll and 48th in the “D3hoops.com” poll, won the Wisconsin Lutheran College “Dunn's Sporting Goods Tip-Off Tournament” on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 19 with a 63-57 win over the host-Warriors (1-1) at the Recreation Complex Center in Milwaukee.
Bethel University (Minn., 1-1) defeated Nebraska Wesleyan University (1-2), 72-46 in the consolation game Carthage opened tournament play on Friday, Nov. 18 with a 71-45 win over Nebraska Wesleyan (1-1), with Wisconsin Lutheran defeating Bethel (Minn., 0-1), 57-43.
In Saturday's title game, Cartage took the lead in the opening minute and opened up a 20-9 lead at 8:49 first period, but Wisconsin Lutheran whittled that lead down to five points, 25-20, at halftime. The Lady Reds maintained their lead throughout the second period. The Warriors got the lead down to a point, 34-33 at 15:18. Carthage went back up by as much as 11 on two occasions, the last at 52-41 at 7:55, and the Lady Reds went on to win by six, 63-57.
Carthage shot 44 percent (20-45), while Wisconsin Lutheran connected at just 37 percent (20-54). The Warriors out-rebounded the Lady Reds 33-27 margin. Carthage's
Diana Jacklin (Sr., Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) led the way with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Stephanie Kuzmanic (So., Mount Prospect, Ill./Wheeling) had 10 points, four boards and three assists.
Katelyn Kuehl was the lone Wisconsin Lutheran player in double figures with a game-high 19 points. Carthage travels to Lisle, Ill., on Tuesday, Nov. 22 to play Benedictine University (Ill.) in a 6 p.m. game at the Dan & Ada Rice Center.
