The Carthage College men's swimming team (1-2 dual-meet record) opened its 2011-12 season by traveling to Michigan on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 28-29 to take on Albion College, Hope College and Olivet College in a quadrangular meet.  The first day was conducted at Lakeview High School in Battle Creek, Mich., with the second day at the Holland Aquatic Center in Holland, Mich.  Carthage defeated Albion, 245-85, lost to Hope, 206.50-107.50 and lost to Olivet by a 216-98 margin.
 
Carthage's Kyle Drake (Sr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) won three events, taking first place in the 200 backstroke (1:54.41), the 200 individual medley (1:58.85) and the 400 individual medley (4:14.90), while taking third place in the 100 backstroke (55.28).  Doug Schranck (Sr., Alton, Ill../Marquette Catholic) was second in the 200 butterfly (2:03.01) and third in the 100 butterfly 53.86).  Teryn Solun (Fr., St. John, Ind./Lake Central) finished second in the 1,000 freestyle (10:18.63) and third in the 500 freestyle (4:58.89).  Carthage travels to Lake Forest, Ill., on Saturday, Nov. 5 to take on Lake Forest College in a Noon dual-meet at the Lake Forest Sports Center.
