The real season starts this week. The Carthage College basketball teams open College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play on Wednesday, Jan. 5 with a doubleheader versus Wheaton College (Ill.) at King Arena in Wheaton, Ill.
The No. 15 Lady Reds take a 9-2 record into the 6 p.m. women's game against the 7-3 Thunder. The Red Men, with a 7-4 record, take on a 9-2 Wheaton team that's ranked 26th in the Jan. 4 "D3hoops.com" poll in the second game, which is scheduled to start at 8 p.m., or 30 minutes after the completion of the women's contest.
On Saturday, Jan. 8, Carthage plays host to Illinois Wesleyan University in a home doubleheader at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. The women's game versus the No. 11 Titans (9-3, 1-0 CCIW) starts at 5 p.m. and the men's clash at 7:30 p.m. The Illinois Wesleyan men's squad was ranked 18th in the Jan. 4 "D3hoops.com" poll.
WLIP-AM will carry all four games live, with the “Voice of the Red Men and Lady Reds,” John Weiser providing play-by-play and Tom Roders doing color commentary. Also, women's basketball coach Tim Bernero and men's basketball coach Bosko Djurickovic will be weekly guests on the Bill Lawrence Show on WLIP throughout the season.
