The Carthage College men's tennis team (13-8, 5-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) lost to Wisconsin-Whitewater (21-9), 6-3, on Saturday, May 1 at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
Carthage's Jack Schiro (Sr., Shorewood, Wis., 15-4) defeated Wisconsin-Whitewater's Danny Glinerti, 6-0, 6-0, at number one singles, while Sammy Ramoni (Sr., Honiara, Solomon Islands, 21-8) lost to the Warhawks' Kevin Caiati at number-two singles, Caiati winning, 6-2, 6-1. Jeffery Lotz Jr. (Fr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 17-11) lost at number-three singles, as did Matt Whiteside (So., Sacramento, Calif., Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 17-7) at number-four singles, J.T. Delk (Sr., Wheaton, Ill./North, 15-9) at number-five singles and Alex McLean (So., Belleville, Ill./West, 12-10) at number-six singles.
Carthage's number-one doubles team of Ramoni and Lotz (11-7) lost to UW-Whitewater. The Red Men's number-two team of Schiro and Schwenke (7-8) was a winner, as was Carthage's number-three team of Delk and Whiteside (12-6). Carthage travels to Bloomington, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, May 7-8 for the CCIW Men's Tennis Championship at the Evergreen Racquet Club.
