The Carthage College softball team (3-4, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) defeated Aurora University (8-1), 3-0, on Thursday, March 11 at the Florida “Rebel Games” in Kissimmee, Fla. Carthage was scheduled to play a second game on Thursday versus Marietta College, but that contest was rained out.

Lady Reds pitcher Kelsey Epping (Sr., Bloomington, Ill./Downs-Tri Valley, 3-0) stopped the previously-undefeated Spartans on a three-hit shutout with just three walks and 13 strikeouts. “She's a dominating pitcher all the time,” said Carthage coach Amy Gillmore, “and she's nice to have on the mound. She has good speed, but she puts a lot of movement on her pitchers and can hit spots.” Carthage scored all three of its runs in the third inning, thanks to an Aurora error and an RBI-single by Jenny Burke (Sr., Lemont, Ill.).

The spring trip was scheduled to conclude on Friday, March 12 with games against Simpson College Wittenberg University, but both of those contests were also rained out. The Lady Reds travel to St. Louis, Mo., on Saturday-Sunday, March 20-21 to play in the Webster University Classic at Blackburn Park. On Saturday, March 20, Carthage plays Central Baptist College at 10 a.m. and Coe College at 2 p.m. On Sunday, March 21, the Lady Reds face Webster at 8 a.m. and Coe at 10 a.m.
