The Carthage College men's tennis team (1-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) opened the indoor portion of its 2009-10 season on Saturday, Feb. 6 with a 7-2 win over Lawrence University (0-1) at the Racine Indoor Tennis Club in Racine, Wis. 

Carthage's Sammy Ramoni (Sr., Honiara, Guadalcanal/New Mexico Military Institute, 6-1), listed seventh in the fall 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region rankings, won his number-one singles match over Ryan Dunn, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Jeffery Lotz Jr. (Fr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 3-1) was a winner at number-two singles. Matt Whiteside (Fr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 1-1) lost at number-three singles. J.T. Delk (Sr., Wheaton, Ill./North, 2-1) was a winner at number-four singles, as was Chris Vargo (Fr., Elmhurst, Ill./York, 1-1) at number-five singles and Alex McLean (Fr., Belleville, Ill./West, 1-1) at number-six singles. 

The Red Men's number-one doubles team of Ramoni and Lotz (3-2), ranked 13th in the region, was an 8-3 loser to Lawrence. Carthage's number-two doubles team of Whiteside and Delk (2-1) was a winner over the Vikings, as was the Red Men's number-three tandem of Vargo and Andy Schwenke (Jr., Mukwonago, Wis., 1-1). 

Carthage travels to Jackson, Wis., on Saturday, Feb. 13 to play a double-dual match at the Pleasant Valley Tennis Club. The Red Men take on St. Norbert College at 3:30 p.m. and Concordia University (Wis.) at 6:30 p.m.
