The Carthage College women's basketball team (18-3, 8-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 14th in the Feb. 2 Women's Basketball Coaches Association/USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division III poll, 14th in the Feb. 2 “D3hoops.com” poll and second in the Feb. 3 NCAA Division III Central Regional poll, routed CCIW-opponent Augustana College (Ill., 6-15, 1-9 CCIW), 80-35, on Saturday, Feb. 6 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.

In what turned into a rather slow-moving first half, Carthage took a 13-2 lead at 16:10 and led by 15, 25-10, at 9:06. The two teams combined for only seven points the rest of the half, with the Lady Reds leading by 14 points at the break, 28-14. The second half was all Carthage, as the Lady Reds opened the half with a 15-2 run to go up by 27 points, 43-16, at 16:54. The lead went to 35 points, 59-24, at 12:10 and to 40 points, 68-28, at 6:31. Carthage cruised to a 45-point victory, 80-35.

The Lady Reds shot 57 percent (29-49), including an astounding 86 percent in the second half (18-21), while Augustana (Ill.) shot just 33 percent for the game (12-36). The Lady Reds out-rebounded the Vikings by three, 25-22, but Augustana (Ill.) turned the ball over 33 times. Four Carthage players scored in double figures. Dani Ripkey (So., Deerfield, Ill.) scored a game-high 15 points on five-of-nine field goals, including five-of-eight three-pointers. Diana Jacklin (So., Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) had 14 points and six rebounds. Cailee Corcoran (Fr., Oak Lawn, Ill./Chicago-Marist) came off the bench to score 13 points, and Heather Gilmore (Sr., Des Moines, Iowa/Pleasant Hill-Southeast) chipped in 10 points. Carthage travels to Elmhurst, Ill., on Tuesday, Feb. 9 to play CCIW-opponent Elmhurst College (14-7, 7-3 CCIW) in a 7:30 p.m. game at R.A. Faganel Hall.
