Carthage College will play host to the CCIW Men's Basketball Tournament on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 26-27 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. The top-seeded and conference-champion Red Men will take on fourth-seeded Augustana College (Ill.) in a 7:30 p.m. semifinal game on Friday, Feb. 26, with Illinois Wesleyan University playing Wheaton College (Ill.) in the other semifinal contest, beginning at 5 p.m.
The tournament-championship game will be played on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m., with the winner receiving the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship. The conference launched its post-season tournament in 2006, and this is the first year that Carthage has qualified for the event.
CCIW Tournament Tie-Breakers: Even with a possible loss in the regular-season finale at Millikin University on Feb. 20, Carthage has clinched the top seed in the CCIW Men's Basketball Tournament. Should Carthage lose to Millikin and second-place Illinois Wesleyan University defeat North Park University on Saturday, the Red Men and the Titans would be co-champions with 11-3 records. The first tie-breaker for top seed is head-to-head competition, with Carthage and Illinois Wesleyan splitting their two games.
The second tie-breaker would be the two teams' records against the third-place team or teams. Wheaton College (Ill.) is currently in third place, and Carthage went 2-0 against Wheaton (Ill.), while Illinois Wesleyan went 0-2. Even if the Thunder fall into a third-place tie with Augustana College (Ill.), Carthage would still have the tie-breaker based on a 3-1 mark against the two tied teams, while IWU went 2-2. In any scenario, Augustana (Ill.) will be the fourth seed, with Illinois Wesleyan and Wheaton (Ill.) the second and third seeds, although which team will be second is not yet determined.
