The Carthage College men's basketball team (6-2, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 19th in the Dec. 7 “D3hoops.com” poll, trounced Silver Lake College (4-7), 86-55, on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
Carthage jumped out to a 10-point lead, 19-9, at 13:48. The lead went to 15 points, 26-11, at 12:11 and 24 points, 37-13, at 8:42. The Red Men upped their margin to as much as 28 points, 48-20, at 2:25 and led by 26 at halftime, 50-24. The second half was more of the same, as Carthage increased its lead 30 points, 60-30, at 16:31 and to 39 points, 80-41, at 6:42. The Red Men cruised to a 31-point victory, 86-55.
Carthage shot 46 percent (35-76), while Silver Lake shot just 33 percent (22-66). The Red Men out-rebounded the Lakers, 54-38. Five Carthage players scored in double figures.
Tyler Pierce (So., Westmont, Ill.) led the way with 13 points on six-of-nine field goals, along with seven rebounds.
Steve Djurickovic (Sr., Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Kenosha-Bradford) had 12 points on six-of-12 shooting, along with six rebounds and six assists.
Mitch Thompson (So., Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) scored 11 points with six boards and four blocked shots.
Marlon Senior (Fr., Skokie, Ill./Niles-North) had 11 points and seven rebounds, and
Malcom Kelly (So., Kenosha, Wis./Reuther) came off the bench to score 12 points. Zak Zablocki led the Lakers with 19 points and eight boards. On Saturday, Dec. 11, Carthage entertains Albion College (2-3) in a 4 p.m. contest, also at Tarble Arena.
