Carthage Women's Tennis Goes 1-2 on Sept. 19-20 Iowa Trip

The Carthage College women's tennis team (7-4, 4-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) traveled to Decorah, Iowa, on Saturday, Sept. 19 to play a double-dual match at Luther College.  The Lady Reds lost to Luther (5-1), 8-1, before shutting out the University of Dubuque (2-8), 9-0.  On Sunday, Sept. 20, the Lady Reds continued on to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where they lost to Coe College (7-0) by an 8-1 margin at the Clark Racquet Center.
 
Hannah Jensen from Coe College defeated Carthage's Gina Klein (Sr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South, 5-4) at number-one singles on Sept. 20, 6-4, 6-3.  Beth Kaufman (Sr., Barrington, Ill., 3-2) lost at number-two singles, as did Hollis McPeek (So., Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 6-4) at number-three singles, Kristina Naidicz (So., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper/UW-Oshkosh, 6-3) at number-four singles, Ashley Morgan (Sr., Afton, Minn./Stillwater Area, 7-3) at number-five singles, while and Stephanie Zundl (Fr., Sleepy Hollow, Ill./Carpentersville—Dundee-Crown, 6-4) lost at number-six singles.  The Lady Reds' number-one doubles team of Klein and McPeek (7-4) lost to Coe.  The number-two team of Kaufman and Naidicz (4-2) was a winner over the Kohawks, but the number-three tandem of Morgan and Bizub (5-4) lost its match.  Carthage travels to St. Peter, Minn., on Friday-Sunday, Sept. 25-27 to play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Midwest Regional Tournament at Gustavus Adolphus College.
