The Carthage College men's basketball team (0-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), tied for 55th place in the “D3hoops.com” pre-season poll, opens its 2009-10 season on Sunday, Nov. 15 by playing host to Transylvania University in a 2 p.m. game at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
Transylvania University, located in Lexington, Ky., is a member of the Heartland Athletic Conference. Brian Lane (136-78, 8 years) coaches the Pioneers, who went 21-6 last (13-3, 1st tie HAC) and qualified for the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship. Transylvania lost to Guilford College, 71-67 in overtime, in a first-round game. In the only other meeting between the Red Men and the Pioneers, Carthage defeated Transylvania, 71-67, on Jan. 3, 1969 at the Florida Presbyterian Tournament in St. Petersburg, Fla.
For the first time since the 2003-04 season, the Red Men will play host to the Carthage Classic on Nov. 20-21 at Tarble Arena. On Friday, Nov. 20, Aurora University plays No. 17 Wisconsin-Platteville at 6 p.m., with Carthage taking on No. 13 Wisconsin-Whitewater at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 21, Aurora tangles with Wisconsin-Whitewater at 5 p.m., with the Red Men facing Wisconsin-Platteville at 7 p.m.
