- Carthage struggled to generate offensive momentum, managing three shots but failing to put one on goal, and trailed 8-0.
SECOND PERIOD
- The Maroons continued their offensive pressure early in the second period, extending their lead with four additional goals.Â
- Carthage broke through at the 4:31 mark when Piper LeFevre found the back of the net off an assist from Kelsey O'Brien, giving the Firebirds their first goal of the contest.Â
- Despite improved defensive play, Carthage trailed 12-1 at halftime.
THIRD PERIOD
- Carthage showed renewed energy coming out of the break. Rosie Nolan opened the scoring for the Firebirds in the period with a goal assisted by Auggie Claridge.Â

- Kyleigh Higgins followed with an unassisted score, and Claridge capped the Carthage offense with a second goal of the game, again assisted by LeFevre.
- Despite the late push, the early deficit proved too large to overcome as Chicago secured the 17-6 victory.
- Claridge led all scorers with two goals and one assist.
- LeFevre recorded one goal and two assists.
- Nolan added one goal.
- In goal, Xochitl Delvale-Vera anchored the defense in the net, recording nine saves.

"Had a tough start to the game, but we started to make the adjustments that we needed to make," said head coach Maddie Berni. "Started to win possessions and find the back of the net and stop them on defense. Learned a lot from this game and ready for the next."
