Carthage 6, Carroll 8
KENOSHA - The Carthage Firebirds women's lacrosse team returned to action on Saturday afternoon to face the Carroll Pioneers. The Firebirds fell to Carroll (WI), 8–6, in a tightly contested conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Art Keller Field. The Firebirds used a dominant second-period surge to build a lead, but a late rally by the Pioneers ultimately shifted the momentum in the final quarter.
FIRST PERIOD
- Carthage opened the game with a strong defensive presence in the first period, limiting Carroll to just one goal while battling to establish rhythm on the offensive end. Despite several quality possessions, the Firebirds were unable to break through, trailing 1–0 after the opening 15 minutes.
SECOND PERIOD
- The Firebirds responded in a big way during the second period, erupting for five goals to take control of the game. Shannon Heitschmidt got things started and finished with two goals on the day, while Kelsey O'Brien added a pair of goals. Kyleigh Higgins and Piper LeFevre each found the back of the net as well, helping Carthage outscore Carroll 5–1 in the quarter and carry a 5–2 advantage into halftime.
THIRD PERIOD
- Momentum slowed in the third period as both defenses stepped up, resulting in a scoreless frame. The Firebirds maintained their three-goal lead heading into the final quarter, but Carroll found another gear in the fourth.
FOURTH PERIOD
- The Pioneers scored four goals in the final period to reclaim the lead, while Carthage managed just one goal—another from Heitschmidt—to cut into the deficit. However, the late surge proved too much to overcome, as Carroll secured the 8–6 win.
- Heitschmidt led all scorers with two goals.
- O'Brien recorded two goals.
- Higgins added one goal.
- In goal, Xochitl Delvale-Vera recorded eight saves in goal.
