Men’s Lacrosse Scores Eight in Fourth to Top Kalamazoo, 13-6

KENOSHA — The Carthage College men's lacrosse team used a dominant fourth quarter to separate from Kalamazoo, securing a 13-6 victory after a tightly contested first half.

How it Happened
  • Carthage struck first at the 12:08 mark of the opening period when Rye Taylor found the back of the net off an assist from Henry Arnold
  • Kalamazoo answered midway through the quarter to even the score at 1-1, but the Firebirds regained the lead late in the frame as Collin McClure scored off a feed from Kyle Carollo to make it 2-1 after one.
  • The Firebirds extended their advantage early in the second quarter with Brandon Sawicki finishing an opportunity from Kyle Cissne at 13:01. 
  • Kalamazoo trimmed the deficit to one at 3-2, but Taylor added his second goal of the game, assisted by Sawicki, to give Carthage a 4-2 lead heading into halftime.
  • Carthage continued to build momentum in the third quarter as Alex Bailey scored at the 3:56 mark, pushing the lead to 5-2.
  • The Firebirds broke the game open in the fourth quarter. Bailey added another early goal before Carthage rattled off four more in quick succession, including scores from Rocco Paddack, Andy Slattery, and Taylor, to extend the lead to 9-2.
  • Kalamazoo responded with a late surge, scoring four straight goals to cut the margin to 9-6 with under five minutes to play. However, Carthage quickly shut the door. 
  • Bailey completed his hat trick with an unassisted goal, sparking a closing run that saw Briton Stanton, Keyan Schugel, and Jack Meyer all find the net in the final minutes.


High Flyers
  • Rye Taylor and Alex Baily each had three goals in the game, while Baily notched four points on the day. 
  • Josh Flores had four caused turnovers, along with Keyan Schugel recording a team-best six ground balls. 
  • In goal for Carthage, Jake Williamson made 13 saves in the win.
