Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Carthage Falls Despite Strong Start in Road Matchup

LEXINGTON — Carthage jumped out to an early lead, but a decisive second-quarter surge by the home team proved too much to overcome in a 15-5 setback in nonconference men's lacrosse action.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Transylvania 15 - Carthage 5
  • Location: Lexington, Kentucky - Pat Deacon Stadium
  • Records: Transylvania 7-2, Carthage 5-7
How it Happened
  • The Firebirds controlled the opening quarter, taking a 2-0 advantage behind goals from Angelo Cullen and Rocco Paddack. The hosts answered late in the period to trim the margin to 2-1 heading into the second.
  • Momentum shifted quickly in the second quarter as the home team strung together five consecutive goals. After tying the game early, three scores in a 20-second span turned a tie contest into a 4-2 deficit, and the lead grew to 5-2 before Alex Moore stopped the run with an unassisted tally. Carthage trailed 5-3 at halftime.
  • Transylvania continued to build separation in the third quarter, adding two more goals to make it 7-3. Rye Taylor delivered a late goal in the final seconds of the period to keep the Firebirds within three entering the fourth.
  • The final quarter saw the game break open, as the home team poured in eight goals to extend its lead. Angelo Cullen added his second goal in the closing minute, but Carthage could not recover, falling 15-5.

High Flyers
  • Angelo Cullen led the Firebirds with two goals in the contest.
  • Josh Flores had four ground balls, followed by Aiden Weise with three.
  • Jake Williamson made a season-best 22 saves in goal for Carthage, the second-most in a single game in program history.

Team Results
  • Carthage will return to conference action against Augustana (Ill.) on Saturday, April 4, at 4 p.m. at home.
