Firebirds’ Five-Goal Third Period Surge Powers Past Raiders

KENOSHA - The Carthage women's lacrosse team returned to action Saturday afternoon for a non-conference matchup against MSOE. The Firebirds defeated the Raiders 18-2, highlighted by a five-goal run in the third period. 

How it Happened
FIRST PERIOD
  • Carthage wasted no time establishing control, opening the scoring with a free-position goal from Piper LeFevre
  • The Firebirds quickly built momentum as Kelsey O'Brien and Reggie Ross each found the back of the net. 
  • MSOE briefly responded to cut the deficit, but Carthage answered immediately. Auggie Claridge capped off the quarter with a goal off an assist from Rosie Nolan, giving the Firebirds a 4-1 lead after one.
SECOND PERIOD
  • The Firebirds continued their offensive surge in the second, outscoring MSOE 4-1 in the period. 
  • O'Brien struck twice in the quarter, while Claridge added two more goals to complete a hat trick before halftime. 
  • Despite a late man-up goal from MSOE, Carthage carried a commanding 8-2 advantage into the break.
THIRD PERIOD
  • Carthage put the game out of reach in the third quarter with a five-goal run. 
  • Hannah Kim opened the scoring, followed by another goal from O'Brien. 
  • Nolan added a pair in the stretch, while LeFevre tallied a second of the contest.
  • The Firebirds' defense held MSOE without a shot in the quarter, extending the lead to 13-2.
FOURTH PERIOD
  • The Firebirds closed out the contest with another strong offensive showing, scoring five more times in the final frame. 
  • Claridge led the charge with two additional goals, while LeFevre, Ross, and Shannon Heitschmidt each added one. 
  • Carthage's defense remained firm, shutting out MSOE in the second half to secure the 18-2 victory.

"Another great team win today!" said head coach Maddie Berni. "We started off a little slow, but really started to pick up and find the back of the net. Proud of everyone today!"
