KENOSHA - The Carthage women's lacrosse team returned to action Thursday evening for a non-conference matchup against Marian. The Firebirds delivered a commanding performance, controlling the game from start to finish, fueled by a dominant first period.
FIRST PERIOD
- The Firebirds wasted no time getting on the board, as Rosie Nolan opened the scoring just 32 seconds into the contest.
- Auggie Claridge followed with back-to-back goals, quickly building momentum for the Firebirds. Kyleigh Higgins added a goal midway through the quarter, while Piper LeFevre netted two goals, including one assisted by Nolan and another assisted by Higgins.
- Claridge added another goal late in the period, and Higgins capped off the quarter with a second goal of the evening.
- By the end of the first, Carthage had goals from Nolan (1), Claridge (3), Higgins (2), and LeFevre (2) to take an 8-0 lead.
SECOND PERIOD
- Claridge struck first in the period, followed by a goal from Nolan off an assist from Claridge. Claridge then completed another goal, this time assisted by LeFevre, continuing her standout performance.
- LeFevre added her third goal of the game late in the half to round out the scoring.
- At halftime, Carthage led 12-0, with second-period goals coming from Claridge (2), Nolan (1), and LeFevre (1).
THIRD PERIOD
- Nolan opened the scoring in the quarter off an assist from Higgins, followed by another goal from Claridge.
- Hannah Kim then found the back of the net to give Carthage its third goal of the period.
- Carthage extended its lead to 15-0 with goals from Nolan, Claridge, and Kim.
FOURTH PERIOD
- In the final quarter, four more Firebirds joined the scoring column.
- Reggie Ross opened the period with a goal, followed by Kaitlyn Goff adding one of her own.
- Higgins scored her third goal of the game off an assist from Katy Berni, and Shannon Heitschmidt closed out the scoring with a goal assisted by Higgins.
- Carthage finished the game with fourth-period goals from Ross, Goff, Higgins, and Heitschmidt.
- Auggie Claridge led all scorers with six goals and one assists.
- Kyleigh Higgins recorded three goals and three assists.
- Rosie Nolan added three goals and one assist
- Piper LeFevre contributed three goals and one assist
- In goal, Xochitl Delvale-Vera anchored the shutout effort in net, helping the Carthage defense hold Marian to just three total shots.
- Carthage recorded 42 total shots and 26 shots on goal.
