RACINE – The Carthage men's tennis team hosted the DePauw Tigers at the LifeSport Athletic Club on Friday afternoon. It was a challenging contest for the Firebirds, as the team lost the doubles point before falling to the Tigers in singles play. 

 

In doubles play, Finn Morris and Diego Silva fell 6-4 to Finley Buelte and Will Cramer in No. 1 doubles. Luca Okino and Victor Pimenta responded in No. 2 doubles with a 6-4 win over Paul Castleman and Will Hutchinson. The Tigers earned the doubles point after Scott Anderson and Thomas Hargreave defeated Ethan Foucheaux and Francisco Silveira 6-4 in No. 3 doubles. The Tigers took a 4-3 lead over the Firebirds.

In singles play, Anderson extended the lead for the Tigers with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) win over Silva in No. 2 singles. The Tigers took a 3-0 lead with Buelte earning a win over Silveira with a pair of 6-3 victories over Silveira. The Tigers secured the victory with Cramer defeating Pimenta 3-6, 6-3, (11-9) in No. 6 singles. Morris got the Firebirds on the board in No. 3 singles, defeating Castleman 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), (10-1). Cyriac Cayuela defeated Viktor Ronnberg 0-6, 7-6 (7-4), (10-6) in No. 4 singles. Okino defeated Hutchinson 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, (10-6) in No. 5 singles.


 
The Firebirds (5-2) return to action on Friday, Feb. 27 as the squad hits the road to face Lake Forest in Lake Bluff, Ill. at 7 p.m. The Firebirds return home on March 29 to host Lawrence in Racine, Wis. at the LifeSport Athletic Club. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
