Women's Wrestling Celebrates Senior Night

Wis-Stevens Point 41, Carthage 7
KENOSHA, Wis. —
The Carthage women's wrestling team hosted the Wis-Stevens Point Pointers in a dual in Tarble Arena on Friday evening. It was a special night for the Firebirds, as the team celebrated Senior Night prior to the dual by recognizing Karina Torres and Sierra Pienkowski.

At 103, the Pointers used a 10-2 tech fall to jump ahead 4-1 to open the dual. The Firebirds responded with Karina Torres defeating Briana Martinez by fall (4:17) at 110 to take a 6-4 lead. The Pointers retook the lead with victories by fall at 117, 124, 138, 145, and 160 as well as a win by forfeit at 131 to take a 34-6 lead. A tech fall for the Pointers at 180 and a 4-2 decision at 207 clinched the team victory for the Pointers.

Coach's Remarks

"UWSP is a tough opponent but we did have some better head to head match ups," said Head Coach Tarkyia Mensah. "We'll keep grinding it out and we'll be ready for them at Regionals. It's not how you start but how you finish the season."

The Firebirds (5-8) return to action on Sunday, Jan. 25 as the team will compete in the 2026 CCIW Women's Wrestling Championships hosted by Elmhurst University in Elmhurst, Ill. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
