Ocampo Represents Carthage at the First NCAA Women's Wrestling Championships

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Jasmin Ocampo of the Carthage women's wrestling team competed in the 2026 NCAA Women's Wrestling Championships at the Xtreme Arena on Friday. It was a special day for Ocampo, as the freshman from Palatine, Ill. became the first member of the Carthage women's wrestling program to compete at the NCAA Championships, following women's wrestling becoming the 91st sport sponsored by the NCAA in January, 2025.

Ocampo opened the day in the 207 Championship Prelim against York's Peyton Fries, who was ranked No. 10 in the country at the 207 division. Ocampo was defeated by Fries with a fall (2-0, 1:32) and moved into the consolation prelims.

In the Consolation Prelims, Ocampo competed against No. 12 Talisha Lewis of Felician. Lewis claimed the victory over Ocampo with a fall (8-1, 2:06) and ended Ocampo's day at the NCAA Championships.

Coach's Remarks

"The results are what they are but regardless Jazz wrestled better," said Head Coach Tarkyia Mensah. "[She] understood the game plan and executed it to her best ability. Earning the opportunity to wrestle at Nationals has placed us in a better position mentally and physically, for next season- not only for her, but for her practice partners and for this team. We're just getting started."

The 2025-26 Carthage women's wrestling season has come to an end. The Firebirds will return to action in fall 2026. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
