Late Surge Pushes Warhawks Past the Firebirds in Whitewater

WHITEWATER  — The Carthage women's soccer team traveled to Whitewater on Wednesday evening for a non-conference clash with UW-Whitewater. The Firebirds put together a gritty defensive effort on Wednesday evening in Whitewater, but a late strike in the 82nd minute lifted UW-Whitewater past the Firebirds, 1–0.

How it Happened
  • A scoreless first half by both sides resulted in a defensive clash between the Warhawks and Firebirds going into the break. 
  • The Firebirds generated seven shots, with quality looks coming from Malie Cassel, Emma Amberg, Ruby Hillegass, and Maya Stone, all forcing saves from the Warhawks' keepers.
  • Carthage's defense, led by Maddie Mahon, Bella Fusco, Stone, and Hillegass, held firm under constant pressure, turning away 16 shots and fending off multiple set pieces. Despite their resilience, UW-Whitewater broke through in the closing minutes (82nd minute) and swept the win from the Firebirds.

  • The Firebirds recorded seven shots, with four of them on goal.
  • Ainsley Stallworth collected six saves in goal.
