Women's Lacrosse Drops Defensive Battle With Carroll

KENOSHA - The Carthage women's lacrosse team hosted the Carroll University (Wis.) Pioneers on a snowy Wednesday evening at Art Keller Field. Both teams were locked in a defensive battle for the majority of the game, with the Pioneers holding on to a slim lead at the final horn. 

How it Happened

FIRST QUARTER
  • Piper LeFevre got the Firebirds on the board first with a goal at 6:44. 
  • The Pioneers tied it up with a goal from Samantha Hurd at 1:03 to end the quarter at 1-1.

SECOND QUARTER
  • The Pioneers took the lead at 11:57 with a goal from Elizabeth Wang and extended the lead with another goal from Abby Tubbs.
  • The Pioneers held a 3-1 lead to end the first half.

THIRD QUARTER
  • LeFevre cut into the scoring deficit with a goal at 9:49 to bring the score to 3-2 in favor of Carroll.
  • The Pioneers quickly responded with a pair of goals from Wang (8:28) and Lauren Fricke (7:56) to extend the lead to 5-2 heading into the final period of the game.

FOURTH QUARTER
  • LeFevre completed a hat trick with a goal at 12:47 to cut the Firebirds deficit to two goals.
  • The two sides battled for momentum the rest of the way, but defense played a crucial role in keeping the score at 5-3 in favor of Carroll when the clock hit zero.

High Flyers
  • LeFevre finished with three goals on seven shots.
  • Xochitl Delvale-Vera finished with three saves in goal for Carthage.
