Women's Lacrosse Fall to No. 22 UChicago

CHICAGO - The Carthage women's lacrosse team traveled to the Windy City to face a former CCIW foe, the UChicago Maroons, on Saturday afternoon. It was a tough day for the Firebirds, as the Maroons used a fast offensive start to defeat the Firebirds 24-6.

How it Happened

FIRST QUARTER
  • The Maroons built a big lead to start the game, going on a 7-0 run over the opening 12 minutes of play.
  • Piper LeFevre got the Firebirds on the board with a free-position goal (3:18) before August Claridge found the back of the net (2:46) to cut the deficit to 7-2.
  • The Maroons scored once more to end the quarter with an 8-2 lead.

SECOND QUARTER
  • The Maroons used a pair of goals in the fourth minute of the quarter to extend the lead to 10-2.
  • Claridge registered another goal (8:00) to end the run and bring the score to 10-3.
  • A 3-0 run for Chicago boosted the Maroons lead to 10 points with 4:28 to play in the first half.
  • Shannon Heitschmidt scored the Firebirds fourth goal (3:36), before the Maroons responded to take a 14-4 lead into the halftime break.

THIRD QUARTER
  • The Maroons opened the second half with a 4-0 run to extend the lead to 18-4.
  • Emma McDonald ended the run with a goal at the 5:02 mark of the quarter.
  • The Maroons added two more goals to hold a 20-5 lead at the end of the period.

FOURTH QUARTER
  • The Maroons outscored the Firebirds 4-1 in the final quarter, with the Carthage goal coming off the stick of Claridge to complete the hat trick.
