Carthage Drops High-Scoring Matchup to Benedictine (Ill.)

KENOSHA – Carthage College built an early lead with a six-run first inning, featuring a two-RBI double from Evan Devine, an RBI single from Jimmy Herget, and home runs from Max Cairo and P.J. Moser. Zander Tubbs also added a homer as the Firebirds extended their advantage. However, Benedictine (Ill.) answered with an 11-run sixth inning to take control. Despite a late rally, including a solo home run by Drew Knecht and a two-RBI single from Tubbs, Carthage couldn't recover falling 21-16.

How it Happened 
  • Benedictine jumped out early with a three-run first inning but Carthage responded with six runs in the bottom half, fueled by a two-RBI double from Evan Devine and an RBI single from Jimmy Herget.
  • Carthage extended its lead with two more runs in the second on a two-RBI single by Matt Felber.
  • Benedictine (Ill.) tied the game at 6-6 with a three-run homer from J. Nonnenman in the third inning.
  • Carthage reclaimed the lead with a two-run homer by Max Cairo and a solo shot by Zander Tubbs in the fourth.
  • The Eagles trimmed the lead to 11-7 with a home run in the fourth.
  • In the sixth, the visitors broke the game open with 11 runs to go ahead 18-11.
  • P.J. Moser homered in the sixth to pull Carthage within six.
  • Drew Knecht's solo home run and a two-RBI single from Tubbs brought Carthage within 18-16 in the seventh inning.
  • The visitors tacked on three more runs in the ninth to seal the victory.
  • Despite the loss, Carthage finished with 14 hits and no errors in the field.
