Balanced Offense, Steady Relief Guide Carthage Past Lawrence

KENOSHA. – The Carthage College baseball team used timely hitting and a strong relief effort to earn a 6-4 win over Lawrence on Tuesday afternoon at Augie Schmidt Field.

How it Happened 
  • After falling behind early on a two-run homer in the first, the Firebirds answered in the third as P.J. Moser delivered a two-run single to even the score. 
  • Carthage pulled ahead with two more in the fourth, including an RBI single from Jimmy Herget and a sacrifice fly by Collin Callahan.
  • Zander Tubbs added a solo home run in the fifth, and Herget later came around to score on a wild pitch in the sixth to stretch the lead to 6-2. 
  • Lawrence made a push in the seventh with a two-run single, but Carthage's bullpen held firm down the stretch. 
  • Jake Hartman Jr. closed the door with his sixth save of the season pitching the ninth and getting two strikeouts and a groundout to seal the win.
