Carthage 5, Wheaton 2
HANOVER PARK – The Carthage men's tennis team continued their conference schedule with a road match against the Wheaton (Ill.) Thunder on Tuesday afternoon. It was a strong day for the Firebirds as the team took the early lead in doubles play and went on to earn their 15th win of the season.

 

In doubles play, Cooper Ferruzzi and Francisco Silveira defeated Andrew Jang and Andrew Winters 6-2 in #2 doubles. Elios Briand and Myles Krzewinski fell 6-3 in #1 doubles to Tim Steiner and Jacob Williams. With the team point on the line, Cyriac Cayuela and Finn Morris defeated Toby Schmidt and Ryder Ward in a tight 7-6 (7-5) battle in #3 doubles. The Firebirds took a 1-0 lead over the Thunder.

In singles play, Krzewinski fell to Steiner in #1 singles 6-2, 6-0 to even the score at 1-1. Silveira earned a #2 singles win with a forfeit from Williams after Silveira took a 6-1, 2-0 lead. The Firebirds reclaimed the lead 2-1. Diego Silva defeated Jang in #3 singles 6-3, 6-1 to move the Firebirds ahead 3-1. Cayuela defeated Corin Tang 6-0, 6-1 in #5 singles to clinch the team victory for the Firebirds. Briand earned a 6-1, 6-2 win in #3 singles over Ethan Walther while Ferruzzi fell to Winters in #6 singles 6-4, 4-6, (10-6). The Firebirds won the match 5-2.
