Late Bats, Steady Bullpen Push Firebirds Past Parkside

KENOSHA. – A late offensive surge and solid bullpen work lifted the Carthage College baseball team to a 6-3 comeback win over Parkside on Tuesday evening at Simmons Field.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Carthage 6 - Parkside 3

  • Records: Carthage 23-8, Parkside 26-14

How it Happened 
  • Trailing 1-0 through five innings, the Firebirds tied the game in the sixth on an RBI single from Matt Felber before taking the lead on a Drew Knecht sacrifice fly. 
  • Collin Callahan added a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh, and Evan Devine delivered a two-run double in the eighth to give Carthage breathing room. 
  • Felber capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
  • Nate Tyrpin earned the win in relief, and Jake Hartman Jr. closed the door with his fifth save of the season.

High Flyers
  • P.J. Moser, Matt Felber and Evan Devine all had two hits in the game. 
  • Moser and Devine each had doubles in the contest. 
  • The Carthage bullpen held Parkside scoreless over the final two innings.
