Firebirds Close Out Weekend with 12-3 Win at North Park

CHICAGO – A fast start and late insurance runs powered the Carthage baseball team to a 12-3 road win over North Park on Sunday afternoon at Holmgren Athletic Complex. The Firebirds racked up 15 hits, including home runs from Christian Duarte, Max Cairo and P.J. Moser, while Brendan Roberts earned the win on the mound.

How it Happened 
  • The Firebirds wasted no time getting on the board, striking for five runs in the opening frame. 
  • P.J. Moser opened the scoring with an RBI double, followed by a run-scoring single from Matt Felber
  • Christian Duarte capped off the inning with a three-run home run to left field, making it 5-0.
  • North Park plated a run in the bottom half, but Carthage continued to apply pressure. 
  • Matt Felber notched his second RBI of the day with a double in the third inning, and Cairo pushed the lead to 8-1 in the fourth with a two-run homer.
  • After North Park cut into the lead with a two-run shot in the fourth, Carthage's pitching took over. 
  • Brendan Roberts went seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four. The Firebirds' bullpen closed out the final three frames without allowing a run.
  • Carthage put the game out of reach in the eighth when Moser launched a three-run homer to left field. 
  • Jimmy Herget added an RBI single in the ninth for the final margin.

High Flyers
  • P.J. Moser led the Firebirds with three hits, including one double. 
  • Max Cairo, Christian Duarte and Moser all homered in the game. 
  • As a team, the Firebirds swiped five total bases in the game while Brendan Roberts struck out three through seven innings of work.
