No. 6 Firebirds Rally to Defeat Illinois Wesleyan in Five-Set Thriller

KENOSHA —  The No. 6 Carthage College men's volleyball team emerged victorious over Illinois Wesleyan 3-2 on Senior Day.

How it Happened
  • Illinois Wesleyan opened the match with a 12-9 lead.
  • Carthage trimmed the deficit to two after a Titan attack error, then surged ahead 23-19 following a block and kill.
  • Illinois Wesleyan ultimately claimed the first set, 25-21.
  • An ace by Michael Yemm and a Titan attack error gave Carthage control of the second set at 16-11.
  • Later, a kill from Owen Otto and additional kills from Ruben Emmerich and Ben Heise pushed the Firebirds to a 24-14 lead, with Otto securing the 25-15 victory.
  • Devon O'Callaghan's ace put Carthage ahead 7-4 in the third set.
  • A combined block from Hudson Sweitzer and Otto gave the Firebirds a 13-9 advantage.
  • Carthage maintained momentum, closing out the set with four unanswered points for a 25-16 win.
  • Illinois Wesleyan bounced back in the fourth set, taking a 12-7 lead after three straight kills.
  • Otto's kill brought Carthage within two, but the Titans extended their lead with another kill.
  • The Titans forced a fifth set with a 25-20 win in the fourth.
  • In the fifth, Carthage jumped out to an 8-4 lead, powered by two Otto kills.
  • After the Titans closed the gap to two, Carthage responded with seven consecutive points, winning the set 15-6.
