Carthage Sweeps Loras in Straight Sets

KENOSHA — The Carthage College No. 4 men's volleyball team swept No. 13 3-0 at home for their ninth home victory.

  • Records:  No. 4 Carthage 17-3 (6-1 CCIW), No. 13 Loras 13-4 (4-2 CCIW)

How it Happened
  • The Firebirds fought to gain a lead early in the first with back-to-back kills from Ben Heise and Owen Hendricks to lead by one. 
  • Loras and Carthage traded points before a 5-1 run from the Firebirds extended their lead to 9-6 
  • The Duhawks gained a small margin before Carthage retaliated with an 11-3 run to lead 22-14 with kills from Ryan Cholewinski, Heise, and Hendricks. 
  • Both teams traded for points before a block from Hudson Sweitzer and Ruben Emmerich ended the set 25-17. 
  • The two teams traded blows, holding even on the scoreboard throughout the second. 
  • A 6-1 run from Carthage gained the advantage and extended their lead to 20-14 with kills from Hendricks and Sweitzer. 
  • Carthage held their lead for the remainder, with kills from Heise and Hendricks to end the set 25-17.  
  • The Firebirds kicked off the third with a 4-0 run fueled by a service ace from Ryan Morey
  • Both teams fought to gain the advantage, with Carthage holding the lead throughout most of the third. 
  • Loras managed to get within two; however, back-to-back kills from Emmerich and Otto further advanced their lead. 
  • Carthage held strong against Loras, taking the set 25-19 after kills from Sweitzer and Heise.
