LeFevre Reaches 100 Career Goals as Firebirds Improve to 7-0

GEORGETOWN - The Carthage women's lacrosse team competed against the Southwestern Pirates on Friday evening in Georgetown, Tex. to close out the team's spring break trip. The Firebirds took control of the lead early and cruised to their seventh consecutive win to start the season. This marks the second longest winning streak in a single season and the longest winning streak to start a season in the history of the program.

How it Happened

FIRST QUARTER
SECOND QUARTER
  • Nolan got the Firebirds offense rolling again the second quarter with a goal (13:42) before Claridge (13:15) extended the lead even further to 8-0.
  • Southwestern found the scoreboard with a goal from Cecilia Cantu (12:49).
  • LeFevre registered two more goals (12:04; 2:36) in the quarter and Heitschmidt added one more (11:16) to give the Firebirds an 11-1 lead at halftime.

THIRD QUARTER
  • Claridge tallied back-to-back goals (13:52; 10:09) to start the second half and extend the lead to 13-1.
  • The Pirates cut into the lead with another goal from Cantu (8:17).
  • LeFevre (5:54), Kaitlyn Goff (3:55), and Emma McDonald (0:15) found the back of the net to bring the score to 16-2 at the end of the third period.

FOURTH QUARTER
  • LeFevre tallied the first goal of the fourth quarter (10:49).
  • The Pirates found some offensive rhythm late with goals from Sydney Martin (5:56) and Grace Van Dinter (4:20) to cut the deficit to 13 goals.
  • Claridge registered the final goal of the game (1:56) to secure the 18-4 victory.

High Flyers
  • LeFevre scored six goals and reached the 100 career goals milestone.
  • Claridge registered five goals, seven draw controls, and one assist.
  • Heitschmidt finished with two goals and three assists.
  • Kara Jaynes made two saves in goal for the Firebirds.

Coach's Remarks

"Really proud of how we played as a team," said Head Coach Maddie Berni. "Everyone really stepped up! We came and took care of business, [and we are] ready to get back after it in Kenosha."
