The Firebirds Stay Undefeated with Win Over UW-Lacrosse

Carthage 15, UW-Lacrosse 8
LACROSSE - The Carthage women's lacrosse team traveled to Lacrosse for a Saturday afternoon matchup against the UW-Lacrosse Eagles. The Firebirds started off hot in the first quarter with three goals and closed the fourth quarter by putting up six goals. The Firebirds move to 4-0 on the season.

How it Happened
FIRST QUARTER
  • Emma McDonald got the Firebirds on the board first with a goal with only 24 seconds gone on the clock.
  • August Claridge put up two unassisted goals to force the Firebirds lead to 3-0 closing out the first quarter. 
SECOND QUARTER
  • The Eagles outscored the Firebirds in the second 4-1.
  • UWL took the Firebirds lead down to 3-1 at 12:01.
  • Claridge answered back to the lone Eagles goal at 4:40 making the score 4-1.
  • The Eagles took the Firebirds lead away by the end of the second quarter with three goals and forcing the score to a tie 4-4.
THIRD QUARTER
  • The Eagles opened the second half hot with two goals and taking the lead from the Firebirds (6-4).
  • Kyleigh Higgins scored an unassisted goal (8:35) to dip into the Eagles lead (6-5).
  • Higgins answered back again against the Eagles at 7:04, forcing the score to a tie at 6-6.
  • Three Firebirds closed out the third quarter to take back the lead. Piper LeFevre (1) and Claridge (2) scored, forcing the score to 9-6.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • The Eagles fired at the Firebirds lead with a goal at 14:37 and making the score 9-7.
  • The Firebirds went on a run with six goals. Higgins put up a goal at 10:18. Claridge added to her goal list at 8:48. At 8:06 Rosie Nolan scored with an assist from LeFevre. Claridge scored again at 7:23. Rounding out the Firebirds, Nolan and Kaitlyn Goff scored at 4:20 and 3:22 forcing the score to 15-7.
  • The Eagles tried to fight back with a goal at 1:39 but couldn't steal the win from the Firebirds concluding the game with score of 15-8 and another Firebirds win. 
High Flyers
  • Claridge led the Firebirds with seven goals on 16 shots and one assist.
  • Higgins finished with three goals on eight shots and tallied one assist.
  • Nolan scored two goals on three shots.
  • Kara Jaynes earned the win with eight saves. 
Coachs Remarks
 "Had to battle back from the first half. Our draw unit started winning the draws in the second half with Kaitlyn Goff really stepping it up for us. Definitely have some things to work on, but happy with the win"
