Firebirds Fluster North Central in Straight-Set Victory

KENOSHA — The No. 5 Carthage College men's volleyball team swept No. 18 North Central (Ill.) 3-0 on Wednesday night.

  • North Central (Ill.) took an early lead in the first set before kills from Hudson Sweitzer and Ben Heise gave Carthage a 13-12 advantage.
  • After the Cardinals pulled ahead by three, the Firebirds responded with a 9-3 run to reclaim the lead at 22-19.
  • Sweitzer sealed the set for Carthage with a final kill, securing a 25-21 win.
  • Heise and Owen Otto powered the Firebirds to a four-point lead in the second set.
  • Consecutive kills from Heise and Owen Hendricks maintained the cushion at 14-10.
  • Three straight kills from Otto extended the advantage to 22-18 before Heise delivered the set-winning kill.
  • Carthage controlled the third set, jumping ahead 12-5 with an ace from Joe Kolwicz.

High Flyers
  • Ben Heise and Owen Otto recorded double-digit kills with 12 and 11, respectively.
  • Heise led the team with four total blocks, while Ryan Cholewinski and Otto added three each.
  • Ryan Morey posted a match-high 30 assists and led the Firebirds in digs with seven.
  • Carthage's offense was efficient in the second set, hitting .471 with 22 kills, five errors, and 34 total attacks.
